Rework

Rework

by Jason Fried
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Having read their first book years ago and as a user of their products I looked forward to reading this book for quite sometime. Fresh out of my masters program it moved to the top of my reading list. I wanted to replace all that academic rhetoric with some boots on the ground advice from two people who have started a company I admire. Rework did just that.

Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson have taken a Nike approach to building their software company. They just did it! Forget about strategy and financing and all that other crap we have been conditioned to consider. This book outlines their process and shares the pragmatic insights they have gained along the way.

Like any bootcamp they start by breaking it down before building back up. They encourage readers to stand for something and make it happen. The key to success is keeping it simple and staying focused. If you be yourself, show your imperfections and share the knowledge you learn along the way you can build a sustainable business and not just another startup burning through investors money.

The style and tone of this book was so refreshing.
If you only read one book about business if your life this should be it.
